Something Catching Your Attention?
I am just living and loving the life here in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. By trade, I am a professional tall ships sailor. I have been sailing all my life and will continue doing so for the rest of my life. Its my greatest passion. I have recently obtained my Captains License so pretty proud of that. I did however semi-retire from actively sailing. I am currently working as a waiter at a restaurant here in Halifax. I recently purchased a 75 foot schooner so I can rebuild it and bring her back to her original condition. I eventually will want to sail her around Nova Scotia teaching Native students the benefits of sail training. To give back to my community in their time of need, and to give children the opportunities that I have been fortunate to have during my life at sea.
I enjoy learning about new cultures, new people and anything else I can be taught. Knowledge is a powerful tool to wield. It makes us who we are, and can make the world a better place to live. I am not a fan of someone who is close minded because being a Native American, i have found that being closed minded means you are ignortant to otehr peoples cultures, beliefs, ideals, and lifestyles. Racism is such an awesome power to battle with for sure. It still exists in today's society and we have to do something about it. I believe you can't change the whole world's ideals, but if you change one persons ideals for the better than you have done your job.
Well, as you can see, I like to rant on about things, I love talking so feel free to msg me and we can get into a nice conversation or debate about something. I love making new friends, I feel as though I can always learn something from someone. Until then, take care.
Movies are fun to watch. I have quite an extensive collection going on. From my years of sailing, there isn't much to do on your downtime, so having a great movie collection in your bunk is essential. I usually like to watch horror, disaster movies, or war movies. Favourite movies include:
Jurassic Park - 1993
White Squall - 1996
Titanic - 1997
Master and Commander - 2003
Band of Brothers - 2003
Connie and Carla - 2005
Evita - 1998
Transformers - 2007
Phantom of the Opera - 2004
And many, many, many more. I could list them off for hours.
Sailing, sailing, and sailing. I love to do various things, depends on my mood. I love going to the gym, hiking, swimming, camping. Going for walks downtown, on a beach, in a park. I love going for long pointless drives or road trips. Going out to the moves, staying in watching a movie. Dinner, shopping. Fixing up cars, or boats. I am pretty handy in the handyman section, lol. Reading, writing, listening to music, playing the flute or penny whistle. sewing, or knitting. Yes, I love to knit. Its very relaxing. But above all I love to have fun.
Being a typial East Coaster, there is nothing better than to listen to good old Maritime Music. Whether be listening to it while drinking a beer at a pub, or sitting in a Kitchen Party, playing the flute or penny whistle ranting out a jig or two. Its the best. Its even more fun just singing horribly ( don't have much of a singing voice) belting out sea shanties while working on tall ships. The music I listen to depends on my mood really. When I am walking to work, or at the gym or trying to be upbeat its usually top 40s, like Lady Gaga, The Killers, OneRepublic, etc. When trying to relax or wind down from a long day at work, its simple stuff, like various classical pieces, Jann Arden, Levi Kreis, Eva Cassidy, people who know how to belt out a great ballad.
I love reading, its something that can take you to anyplace in the world, and any time period you wanna visit. If I am not reading something to do with sailing, its usually some sort of fiction or historical account of something significant. My favourite novels are in no particular order:
Timeline - Michael Crichton
Life of Pi - Yann Martel
Wicked, Son of a Witch - Gregory Maguire
Pride of the Sea - Tom Warren
Titanic Survivor - Violet Jessop
Tall Ships Down - Daniel Parrot
I have many, many others, but by far too many to list here.
